Didi is currently travelling around the country teaching workshops as well as master and guest classes at Pretoria's Tswane University and the Dance Junxion in Rosebank, Johannesburg, Elite Dance Studio in Vanderbijl Park & Global Dance Convention-an annual dance gathering of young dancers around South Africa, flocking to attend the workshops with selected choreographers around the Country.
Says Didi: "My first taste of teaching workshops back-to-back, over a 5-day period was with Global Dance Conventions, run by an incredible woman called Tina Fraser. I was suddenly intimidated by my first class, which was with 8 to 12 year olds. I had never worked with dancers that young before. I usually only work with professional dancers...Everything that I'd prepared for that lesson, went out the window. I felt like a newbie. I forgot eveything! By the end of that class,I had them eating out of my hands. The smiles, hugs & questions afterwards got me hooked! I then decided, that it was all I wanted to do. Nurturing new talent in a positive way, was so rewarding! I want to do this everyday of my life!"
From this experience, I learnt so much about myself & my dedication to my craft. I learnt that teaching people to dance was not only about the steps & technique, but also the words of encouragement & the fact that everyone is different to the other, & that no 2 people can express a feeling the same way. That understanding one's own body, is important in dance classbut, also in one's everyday life. What an achievement to find that within yourself!
Dance is one of the most celebrated forms of expression. Everyone wants to dance beautifully! this is why I want to do this everyday!
